Configuring Vortex Downloader Preferences

All settings in Vortex apply instantly to new and active downloads with zero app restart required. Access settings anytime by clicking Settings in the left sidebar.

📥 1. Downloads Card

  • Download folder: Set your default destination directory with the Browse... button.
  • Filename template: Customize naming patterns using parameters like %(title)s.%(ext)s.
  • Merge container: Select your preferred output container (mp4 or mkv) when combining separate video and audio streams.
  • Concurrent downloads: Set the maximum number of simultaneous tasks (set to 0 for unlimited in Pro).
  • Connections per download: Adjust parallel TCP connection threads (from 1 up to 32 parallel turbo streams in Pro) for direct cloud files.
  • Download speed limit: Cap total bandwidth (MB/s) so other network applications run smoothly (set to 0 for full unrestricted speed).
  • Overwrite existing files: Re-download files even if a file with the same name already exists in your folder.
  • Automatic file categorization: Automatically sorts completed files into categorized subfolders (/Videos/, /Music/, /Compressed/, /Documents/, /Programs/).
  • Clean temporary files: Dedicated [ 🗑 Clean temp files ] button to purge leftover chunks and thumbnails in 1 click.

⚡ 2. Vortex Pro Card

  • License: View your active license tier and click Remove from this device to transfer your license.
  • Action when all downloads finish [PRO]: Set automated power triggers — choose Do nothing, Shutdown PC, Sleep, or Hibernate.
  • Remove sponsor segments [PRO]: Auto-strip sponsored segments, self-promotions, and subscribe reminders from YouTube videos (SponsorBlock).
  • Embed subtitles [PRO]: Select your preferred language (e.g. English) and automatically bake subtitles into the video file.
  • Embed metadata & cover art [PRO]: Bake video titles, chapter markers, and high-res thumbnail cover art directly into media files.

🔄 3. Background, Updates & TeraBox Cards

  • Watch clipboard for links: Vortex monitors your clipboard in the background and prompts instant downloads when links are copied.
  • Launch on system startup: Starts Vortex minimized in your Windows system tray upon boot with zero startup lag.
  • Closing the window: Hides the application to the tray instead of quitting (right-click the tray icon to exit).
  • Auto-update Core Engine: Automatically checks for streaming engine decryption updates on startup.
  • Use browser login (cookies): Import session cookies (Firefox recommended) to unlock age-restricted streams and prevent bot-detection checks.
  • Check for updates: Manual 1-click update buttons for both Core Engine and Vortex Downloader app versions.
  • TeraBox cookie (ndus): Link your free TeraBox session cookie automatically via the browser extension or paste it manually for full uncompressed downloads.

🛡️ 4. Security, Logins & Custom Categories

  • Integrated Antivirus Scanner: Enable automatic post-download scanning via native Windows Defender (MpCmdRun.exe) or any custom antivirus executable (Malwarebytes, Kaspersky, Bitdefender) with custom arguments. Warns you before opening infected files.   • Site Logins & Domain Auth Vault: Securely store login credentials (HTTP Basic, Digest, or Bearer auth) for password-protected web directories, NAS storage, private cloud shares, and corporate intranets. Vortex automatically injects credentials upon download.
  • Customizable Categories & Extension Routing: Create unlimited custom download categories, define custom save folders on any drive or network path, and map custom file extensions (e.g. .iso, .apk, .blend, .flac) for automatic routing.
  • Remote ZIP Archive Previewer: Uses HTTP Range requests to read Central Directory headers from remote .zip files. Inspect internal file trees, file names, and uncompressed sizes before downloading.
